Sega made two announcements today regarding a couple of games in the company's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. These include the official name reveal for Project Sonic and the delay of Sonic Mania.
Originally announced alongside Sonic Mania during the franchise's 25th anniversary last June, Project Sonic, also known as Sonic 2017, will officially be titled Sonic Forces. This was revealed on Twitter along with what appears to be concept art for the game. The tweet says that the first gameplay footage of Modern Sonic is scheduled to be shown sometime tomorrow. Sonic Forces is set to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch in Q4 2017.
During a panel at SXSW, the company also confirmed that Sonic Mania would be delayed until summer 2017.
In a statement provided to IGN, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said that quality is important to Sega and they will do whatever is necessary to ensure the highest quality product.
"For SEGA, quality is most important. We stated this last year, and we are committed to doing whatever it takes to make Sonic games the highest quality possible. Though we like to go fast, sometimes, for a great game, you must also wait."
Sonic Mania will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
