The first season of Hitman has come to an end. The final episode of Hitman is a befitting finale for the first season. There is finally a villain that unravels the mysteries surrounding all the previous hits that Agent 47 carried out over the course of the season. Additionally, it seamlessly bridges the the first season to the upcoming one. Without giving too many spoilers, let me talk about what’s happened during the course of the last few episodes.
For those of you who haven’t played the Colorado scenario, the previous episode centers around Agent 47 going after a lead regarding a possible compromise of ICA. ICA is the clandestine agency he works for. Now he tracks the man responsible for it to a luxury hotel resort and health facility in Japan. Unlike previous episodes where there are four targets, this one is much more manageable. You will only need to eliminate two targets: the villain and a local woman associated with illegal activities. The level is mostly confined indoors to the hotel with some opportunities to go out like hot spring pools and balconies overlooking snowy mountains in the background. This is one of my favorite levels because I prefer indoor adventures than open-world exploration. This gives it more structure.
You start off as a hotel guest, enjoying your vacation in Japan. Another little complaint I had from previous episodes was that the voice acting was a little odd. The staff now speak reasonably-accented English, which is something the previous episodes lacked when in a foreign locale. That sometimes made it hard to understand what people were saying.
Like always, the most thrilling and satisfying way to play through the game is to take advantage of opportunities and make it seem like an accident. And luckily, the final episode offers fun ways of doing this. I opted for instrument failure and sushi poisoning but there are many other ways to take the two out. It took me a while and many attempts to get it right but it was satisfying for sure.
Upon finishing the game, the final cinematic is what concludes the first season. I was surprised and glad to see that the story is just getting started and I’m looking forward to the second season. I know many gamers will probably be angry with the cliffhanger-type ending but it builds intrigue so i’ll let it slide. However, I do not plan on playing the second season in an episodic fashion. I’d wait for the whole season to be ready and then play through it. Playing one episode per month for an hour or two feels disjointed and I felt that I missed out on a cohesive experience.
Summary
In conclusion, the first season of Hitman is a great game overall. The thrill and excitement offered by stealth infiltration is immense. Additionally, the season finale is satisfying and hopefully Season 2 comes out soon. I don’t want to wait a long time for it. I’m hoping it’s out next year. Until then, I think I’m going to play through the entire season again from start to finish.
