Super Party Sports: Football is a fun mobile game which was ported to the Xbox One that mixes elements of Angry Birds and soccer into one fun indie game. It reminds me a lot of #IDARB, actually, and I really liked it. It’s definitely a fun title to check out between those heavy hitters next month.
The premise of Super Party Sports: Football – I know, it’s a mouthful – is that it’s a physics based game where you have to kick a soccer ball to the other end of the field within 30-50 seconds by bouncing it off of obstacles. In order to score the goal you must knock down every other player on the opposing team by hitting them with the ball, which adds time to the clock. If you do not do this, the goal keeper will constantly block the ball which may cause you to run out of time. It’s a fun twist on physics based games like Angry Birds!
I must admit, there isn’t a lot of meat to the game but it’s so fun! The fact that they made a game so simple that is actually fun is a huge plus, however there are some minor flaws that may annoy some people. I frequently found myself passing the ball to a player and not being able to pass it to another player because my current player was in a position that wouldn’t give me a good enough angle to kick the ball to the next player in the short amount of time I was given. It felt like I was led to just restart the level multiple times until I found the sweet spot. It started to think that the developers may have done this just to extend how long you play the game. This may not be the case but that’s certainly what it felt like.
I also felt that there weren’t enough ways to complete the levels. There are only a few ways to actually navigate through levels and it doesn’t allow for a whole lot of replay value. Luckily there are tons of levels in the game so it’s not a huge complaint because I don’t feel the need to go back and play levels that often.
My final and probably largest complaint is that I didn’t feel like I was being rewarded for pulling off clutch moments. I would sometimes pull of some insane shots thanks to the awesome physics in the game but I didn’t get rewarded with more than just a couple of seconds of extra time. It would have been nice to get some extra coins to buy some costumes for pulling off skill shots or pulling off a clutch moment by scoring a goal with less than 2 seconds left on the clock. There were too many times where I had scored a goal with just milliseconds left, and it felt incredibly satisfying, but I never got any sort of actual reward for it.
Summary
Overall, Super Party Sports: Football is a fun little title. I wouldn’t sit down and play it for multiple consecutive hours, but I don’t think that’s really what they were going for. I can totally see myself playing this while waiting for a game to install or just for fun every once in a while. It’s a shame that I can’t snap it to the side of my screen and play it while waiting in a lobby of Call of Duty or Halo just to play a round of it before my match starts. If you have a few dollars in your account, give this game a shot. You’ll surely enjoy it if you need something to pass the time!
