Microsoft have now confirmed the default desktop background that will be present in Windows 10. Known as the ‘Windows 10 Hero Desktop Image,’ the wallpaper was created by using variations of light to create a special effect on the Windows 10 logo. Microsoft collaborated with the world renowned, San Francisco-based designer Bradley G. Munkowitz (GMUNK) create this iconic Windows 10 image.
The image wasn’t created using PhotoShop or any other premium imagery tool, instead, light was the dominant factor in the creation of this background. Blasting lasers, pumping smoke machines, colored filters and falling crystal dust all contributed to the creation of this image. It wasn’t until they had the perfect alignment between the light being produced and the Windows logo that they took the photo. Below, you can watch a behind-the-scenes look of the creation of this image.
My initial reactions of it was that it seemed a bit bland but after looking at it more, it seems like something that just shows the Windows logo as what it is. Nothing crazy going on in the background, it’s just a simple image that fits into place on any type of screen. When you look at the effects happening with the logo, they are pretty cool to observe. I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter complaining about it but the majority of people aren’t even going to be staring at this for long, no matter how pleasant the default image is, everyone’s going to apply to their own custom theme or background to use.
I look at it this way, the amount of work that has gone into the creation of this ‘Hero’ image shows how much faith Microsoft has in Windows 10 and with today’s reveal, we should be getting even more excited as the July 29th release date of Windows 10 approaches.
