SuperData reveals sales statistics about Xbox One

While Microsoft no longer shares official numbers regarding Xbox One hardware sales, other analysts provide their findings from time to time. As Nintendo recently put on their Nintendo Switch event, tracking firm SuperData revealed in their take on the worldwide market for video games that they believe Microsoft has shipped 26 million Xbox One units so far. It should be noted that this is only an estimate based on their data.

When the Nintendo Switch launches in March, SuperData says it “enters the console market at a time when Sony is dominating with an install base of almost 55 million, and 26 million for Microsoft’s Xbox One.”

Even though the Xbox One was the best-selling console for the second half of 2016, no doubt thanks to the launch of the Xbox One S and competitive discounts this holiday season, their numbers are still less than half of what the PlayStation 4 has reportedly sold. With the release of Project Scorpio this upcoming holiday, Microsoft surely aims to gain some ground by launching one of the most powerful consoles on the market. We likely won’t hear Microsoft talk specifics about hardware sales until Project Scorpio releases in the fall as the company has shifted focus over time to other statistics such as player engagement.

Aside from hardware sales, SuperData also claims that Xbox Live and PS Plus generated $3 billion combined in revenues last year, and total earnings for digital downloads and microtransactions reached $7 billion worldwide on consoles.
