Project Scorpio is on the mind of every gamer right now as Microsoft touts the console to be “the most powerful console ever” with a six teraflop GPU and 320GB/s of memory bandwidth. A console that’s targeting 4K gaming and VR is not going to come cheap, however, and many gamers may not have the money to be able to buy such a beast of a console.
Microsoft are hoping to be able to sway existing Xbox One owners over to the side of Project Scorpio by trading in their existing Xbox One console to put money towards the purchase of a Scorpio machine. General Manager of Xbox Services Dave McCarthy has said that Microsoft “want to make that transition as smooth as possible” and the company are going to “try partnerships with our retail partners to smooth it even more with trade-in programs” when gamers go to buy their Scorpio.
If what Microsoft are saying about the Xbox Family campaign ends up to be true, with all future Xbox games being compatible with future machines, then trading in your Xbox One for a Scorpio is less of a risk than trading in your 360 for an Xbox One, since most 360 games are still not backward compatible with Xbox One. Whatever your thoughts on this trade-in program are, tell us in the comments below.
