Xbox’s Bill Stillwell says backward compatibility faces many challenges

Xbox Platform Lead Bill Stillwell has confirmed that there may be no new backward compatible titles coming to Xbox One players this week.

In a rather long-winded tweet from the Xbox employee, Stillwell calmed gamers saying: “It is important to remember that BC releases have always ebbed and flowed. Just like in the industry, some months are loaded, and others are pretty light. We are still 100% committed to the program. I expect big release in the near future.”

Stillwell’s statement has been pushed out as a reply to those who—just like every week—are chanting for Microsoft to release Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 into the backward compatibility program. Responding to this Stillwell said, “I can’t understate the complexity of the non-technical part of this. We are in some cases reviewing licensing agreements that are a decade old, evaluating the impact of new technology on those agreements, and then negotiating with a host of other parties for terms to get renewed/changed. This is not a quick process most times.”

No BC releases today, but the week isn’t over. More importantly though, a message that might help explain the state of things today. pic.twitter.com/9ML0VPDqJx
