Blizzard Entertainment has posted a job listing on its website that may hint at them wanting to remaster some of their classic games. They are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Classic Games to help them restore such games as Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, and StarCraft, presumably for newer computers.
The listing on their website states: “Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation.
We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.
So if you like wearing many hats, know small teams are the most effective, and look forward to challenges that will create millions of new adventures for our players: we would love to hear from you.”
This is great news for anyone who enjoyed playing those games but felt that they were hindered by their old hardware. Those games definitely still have a market and a loyal fanbase. Restoring them would also help more people get into those games who previously felt that they couldn’t play the older ones because they felt so outdated. It’s a smart move by Blizzard if they want to make a lot of fans happy.
