It appears that die-hard Windows Phone fans may have something amazing to look forward to. In an interview for Windows Weekly, Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft Chris Capossela sat down to discuss where Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile are heading. During the interview he hinted at a potential “Surface” branded device that will be a “breakthrough” device. He hinted that it will be a “spiritual equivalent” to the Surface product line.
The image used in the header above is a leaked render of the Lumia 640’s successor, the Lumia 650. The leaked renders showed a metal/poly-carbonate phone rumored to be unveiled in Q1 of 2016, with a release shortly after. The Lumia 650 could potentially be the phone that Capossela was referring to in his interview.
With the release of a Surface phone, or a premium Windows Phone, the Windows Phone could see a potentially massive growth in the platform. Couple this with the universal apps being released by developers that run on both Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, it could truly have a massive impact on Windows Phone market share.
I for one am very excited at the possibility of a Surface Phone coming to the Windows Phone line-up. We should learn more in the upcoming months, so keep it on ICXM for all the latest news regarding Windows Phone.
