Destiny’s third major expansion, The Taken King is set to release this fall, and even though a hefty price tag has been placed on the package, not all details have been shared by Bungie. In a reddit post, a user has claimed he has sources who have contact with those working on the game at Bungie. From these sources, he has compiled a list of supposed information, for both Destiny: The Taken King, and Destiny’s successor. He also claims that these sources are extremely reliable, however no proof is provided. If the information is legitimate, it is now thirdhand, and some details could have been skewed.
The following information is all taken from the post, and should not be taken as fact:
Destiny’s The Taken King expansion will be led by Eris Morn, who was originally introduced in the first DLC, The Dark Below. She will hand out a large majority of the quests in the game, and help shape the storyline. The Hunter and Warlock vanguards, Cayde-6 and Zavala will also be incorporated, but how this will be achieved is unknown.
The new area offered in The Taken King will take place on The Dreadnaught, a massive Hive starship. The area will be much larger than existing patrols, and offer more when exploring the environment. It is set to have many extra activities and secrets, which have not been in-game before. Some of these secrets are forecasted to take months to discover. The new raid that takes place on this ship will hold three bosses, which will be taken on separately.
Saturn, which will feature in the expansion, is set to have playable areas, but sadly will not be explorable. Many planets have patrol areas, which can be freely discovered. Saturn will not offer this, and will have set missions instead.
Artifacts, which are coming with the next expansion, have also received little clarification since the announcement. The source states that these are not relics and instead “going to be much cooler, giving guardians new effects and new ways to play”.
It is also noted that Clans, which are currently in Destiny and manageable through the game’s site, will be upgraded. Clans will be present more benefits, and upgrades given as a rewards to those playing with clanmates.
After The Taken King’s release, Bungie are planning to work on a new form of ascending, similar to the option offered with the second expansion, House of Wolves. This will suit the content released in the second year. The system is supposedly set to be complex, and offer aesthetic customisation for player’s weapons.
Fewer details were given surrounding Destiny 2, likely because the project is still in early stages of development. The game will be sold as a separate retail title, with a planned release of September 2016. The new title will be named ‘Destiny 2: The Shattered Suns’, however characters are transferable from the current game, like Bungie stated last year.
The story will continue from the first installation in the franchise, and explore the concepts introduced in expansion packs. There is a planned focus on Osiris, even with a new faction being designed to help drive this story. The story will improve on Destiny’s original offerings, which have been criticised for the lack of depth. Hollywood writers are going to be taken onboard, to ensure the storyline is structured, and completed to a higher standard. Peter Dinklage will no longer voice the ghost, and a new voice actor is planned to take his place.
It was also mentioned that with Destiny 2, no DLC expansions will be delivered, and instead free updates will be distributed over the following years after launch. These new raids, areas and missions will be accessible to all players, for no extra cost.
While the above details have realistic concepts, it seems that without any secure proof for the sources, the user has little to stand for. Many of these possible features have already been suggested in trailers, and it is likely that they will appear in the expansion, regardless of this supposed leak.
