Destiny’s $30 level boost microtransactions are an embarrassment

In case you haven’t heard by now, Bungie and Activision have released a $30 boost pack allowing you to go to level 25 immediately with any character. This of course comes only two months after the information was data mined and then rebuked by Bungie who said that the boosts “have no place in the game”. Well, fast forward two months later and money makes the world go round’.

The boost pack is a one time boost that allows any character to immediately go to level 25 and therefore gain access to the Taken King content of the game. If this sounds familiar, it should. When The Taken King first launched back in September, the boost was given away for free as part of a promotion in order to allow new players as well as those who fell off of Destiny to get into the new game content. This pack is going to cost you $30, however, and only allow you to start at level 25. In addition, you also get a sub-class boost and some weapon modifications.

Now, $30 is $30 and you don’t have to buy the pack. On the other hand, Bungie and Activision continue taking two steps back for every one step forward. $30 for a level boost pack would be acceptable if it let you max out at the highest level, but getting to level 25 on your own doesn’t take long enough to warrant the purchase after The Taken King’s leveling adjustments. From my perspective, they can’t seem to see the forest through the trees and keep missing the mark with every “improvement” to Destiny. What do you people think?
