As we get closer to the launch of Dishonored 2, Bethesda has released yet another preview video, this time with developer commentary detailing some of the themed missions in the game. Dishonored 2 is all about player choice, and the developers at Arkane designed incredible, beautiful levels for players to explore. Missions have their own unique themes that set them apart from one another. These choices aim to make the game much more atmospheric.
“We wanted to do classic Dishonored missions where it’s a highly defended location, it has its own character, it has its own nature, and you’re going after a high-value target,” said Creative Director Harvey Smith. “But we also wanted to give them some sort of epic theming, either fictionally or game-mechanically, so that it created a completely memorable space to move around in.”
Lead Level Designer Christophe Carrier also added, “We’ve put so much effort into having so many things to do – so many ways to do things, so many choices – I would like the player to feel like the possibilities are endless.”
The levels discussed in the video are ones that have previously been shown or talked about before, such as the Clockwork Mansion, Royal Conservatory, Dust District, and Crack in the Slab. The Clockwork Mansion, designed by Kirin Jindosh in the game, can be navigated using levers that deconstruct the rooms and put them back together in one giant, elaborate puzzle. In the Royal Conservatory, which is almost like a museum, players will get a glimpse of the Victorian ideas of natural philosophy and science during that time period. The Dust District, a location with two possible assassination targets, is characterized by dynamic wind storms. Lastly, Crack in the Slab is a level that allows players to go back and forth in time, switching between the present day and a night three years ago in Dishonored 2.
Dishonored 2 launches on November 11 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
