The head of the giant gaming corporation, Electronic Arts, was recently interviewed and said some things that he hopes will change the public’s perception of the “greedy” company.
Andrew Wilson, head of EA, said, “If you understand the video game business, EA-the branding is this corporate beast that just wants to take money from them while people play our games, that’s not actually what we’re trying to do.”
Obviously, no company wants to be seen like that. They’re just trying to make a successful business and keep fans happy, even though they were achieved the title for “The Worst Company in America” on multiple occasions. The assumption of greed on EA’s part comes from their heavy focus on DLC and microtransactions.
“For the longest time in civilization, we would spend money as human beings, then we would spend time where we spent our money. That’s reversed now,” he continued. “You come in, and play a bunch of games, and ultimately you invest after that.”
So, do you think he is telling the truth or is this some PR mumbo-jumbo that Andrew Wilson was told to say in order to make EA look good? I personally think they’re trying to win back the fans by making games people want like Star Wars: Battlefront and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, the microtransactions and DLC are probably here to stay due to the fact it brings in money and makes players come back to their games regularly.
EA will be releasing two games next month, Unravel (which is probably going to get a name change shortly) and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, you can play both of them 5 days early if you sign up for EA Access which is $5 a month.
