Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn has been extremely popular on both PC and Sony’s PlayStation consoles since it launched back in 2013 but the game has been weirdly absent from Microsoft’s console. This used to be because Microsoft used to have strict rules set in place that didn’t allow cross-platform connectivity but as of recently Microsoft have become more open to the thought of cross-play with not only PC—which was a big focus of their E3 press conference—but also between Xbox and PlayStation.
When talking with Polygon about the thought of bringing Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox One director Naoki Yoshida replied with, “Microsoft actually approached the Final Fantasy 14 team about the cross-platform opportunity. When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet. The Final Fantasy 14 team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its regulations that we would have to consider waived. We’re waiting on Microsoft’s response for that, but we are having discussions.”
I’m sure many fans of Final Fantasy are eagerly waiting for the game to come to Xbox One and we’ll only know with time whether Square Enix will bring their product over. Tell us what you think in the comments below.
