Forza Motorsport 6’s career, tracks, features and cars announced

Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios unveiled Forza Motorsport 6 gameplay yesterday with a stunning reveal during the Microsoft E3 2015 Media Briefing featuring the 2017 Ford GT being brought onto the stage. The reveal was presented by Turn 10 Creative Director Dan Greenawalt and Henry Ford III from Ford Motor Company. The gameplay trailer confirmed that the game will feature over 450 cars, 26 world-famous locations and would run in 1080p in a blistering 60fps.

Forza Motorsport 6 will feature over 450 ForzaVista cars. ForzaVista isn’t going anywhere and with Forza Motorsport 6, you’ll see painstakingly recreated cars, built from the ground up to be exact replicas of their real-life counterparts. ForzaVista means fully modeled interiors and exteriors, working gauges and headlights, full damage for every car in the game, working doors; all the things you’d expect to see in a car appearing in a racing game on this generation.

Cars feature from all kind of cultures, including race, sports, off-roaders, compacts, classics, hyper-cars, super-cars, LMP models and more. At the end of my article, I include a list of over 100 of the cars featuring in Forza Motorsport 6.

The 26 world-famous locations will introduce over 100 ribbons in Forza Motorsport 6. Every track from Forza Motorsport 5 will feature in Forza Motorsport 6 with some new touches. For example, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was recaptured and has been rebuilt after extensive track renovations in 2014. Five of the new tracks for Forza Motorsport 6 include Rio de Janeiro, Daytona International Speedway, Watkins Glen, and Brands Hatch. The other five will be revealed throughout the Summer. Turn 10 Studios say all of these tracks have been built with “the utmost precision and beauty.” Featuring advanced lighting and physically based materials, the tracks will “feel alive and incredibly real.”

Wet weather and night racing is also coming to Forza Motorsport 6. That includes realistic 3D puddles which even getting a single wheel in, could affect your car. Rumble strips are sticky in dry weather but are slick and dangerous when wet. Each of Forza Motorsport 6’s 148 individual surfaces include these dry and wet values and Turn 10 claim its “result is a kind of wet weather racing unseen in any racing game before it.” Racing at night-time will feature cooler tarmac, therefore reducing the overall car grip, thus requiring a different skillset than racing in the day. And everything will run in a blistering 1080p/60fps.

Split-screen racing is making its return to Forza Motorsport 6, but it gets even more exciting than that. Whether you’re playing online or offline, Forza Motorsport 6 will feature 24 cars on the track. Drivatars are also being improved, using Microsoft’s Machine Learning on Azure, your data for Drivatars from Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2 has already given you your Drivatar for Forza Motorsport 6. Again, with the Microsoft Cloud, Forza Motorsport 6 Drivatars will bring even more nuanced aspects of driving – late-braking, locking up a single tire, and so on. It all adds up to opponents that look even more human than ever before. Players will also be able to adjust their Drivatar data on the Cloud, if they don’t want theirs to be a dirty driver, they can change that.

The Career mode for Forza Motorsport 6 has been completely re-built with a focus on the ‘Stories of Motorsport’ and will feature more than 70 hours of gameplay and will stoke “fans imagination” whether you’re a huge automotive enthusiast or a car novice. Stories are told in multiple volumes, with each volume being a comprehensive career experience that lets the player travel the world and celebrate the past and present of automotive history. Volumes are further subdivided into series where players can choose precisely the types of cars they want to drive.

Career progression will unlock new Showcase events which are short vignettes that let the player experience unique race modes such as Autocross and endurance racing – across a huge variety of cars. They also let players experience what it’s like to be a professional race car driver or re-live some of the greatest moments of motorsport history.

Forza Motorsport 6 will continue with the franchises highly-popular idea of choice. Core racers can play with harder, more realistic settings while casual players can play using assists. Expert racers can try out some of the new simulation improvements such as new tire compounds and improved suspension architecture modelling.

Finally, Forza Motorsport 6 will be the most competitive entry to the series. Forza Racing Leagues will be a big feature in Forza Motorsport 6 and you’ll hear more about that later in the Summer. There’s also much more to be told as we approach the games September 15th launch (September 18th in Europe/UK). The game also features three unique digital bundles, one of which allows early access to the game and you can learn more about each of those here.
