How to stream Xbox One games to Windows 10

Just a week to go before Microsoft drops what is likely to be the last ever numbered Windows software release. Subsequent releases are supposedly going to be done via updates to current software, akin to the Xbox One.

And bringing Xbox One into the fray quite nicely, everyone is going to be able to stream their Xbox One games to their Windows 10 devices. Whether you’re on PC, laptop or a tablet, providing you have a decent network connection, play away.

Firstly, the streaming feature of Xbox One is coming out of preview, and it’s being extended to everyone who has Windows 10. Is the family round for Christmas dinner, and you can’t wait to sink your teeth into your recently downloaded Gears of War 4? Got a Windows 10 tablet floating around? Well sharpen your gnashers, because here’s how you can getting a sneaky session in while Gran is sucking back the sherry.

Firstly, you’re going to have to enable the function from your Xbox One.

  • Go to Settings > Preferences > Allow game streaming to other devices and make sure your device has the most recent version of the Xbox App.
  • Then get your Windows 10 device, and go to Connect > + Add a device and select your Xbox One. Plug in your *cough* Elite *cough* controller (that I’m literally salivating over right now) for your Xbox One, or even a wired 360 controller.
  • Select Home > Recently Played to select a game, and then Play from console.

A notification will appear to say that a streaming session has begun, and the console will be actively on, as though you were using it directly.
