Konami says Metal Gear Solid 5’s multiplayer only uses microtransactions as accelerators, discredits paywall rumors

With the impending launch of one of this year’s biggest games, Metal Gear Solid 5’s embargo has been lifted and reviews have been released. While the game itself is receiving high scores and great reviews, rumours started to circulate that the PvP mode was locked behind a paywall! The story was first reported by Gamespot, however Konami were quick to squash these claims. Konami said:

“Gamespot posted an article following the review that the PVP (FOB) mode in MGSV TPP will be restricted behind a micro-transaction paywall and that is simply not true. The FOB mode will be fully accessible at launch and the micro-transaction layer to that specific feature in the game primarily acts as an accelerator. We’ll have more details at launch, but we did try and clear these rumours up when they started circulating during E3. We even addressed this in our official E3 2015 demo when it went live during that show.”

So while PvP will not be pay to play, it will feature micro-transactions. With more and more games adding micro-transactions, is this a way for developers to take more money from us? Is it fair? Or is it a good idea to let players who want to pay to accelerate their progress? I personally dislike the practice because many games force you to spend money. You feel so under-geared and weak that you’re left with no choice. I hate that feeling. Let us know in the comments below.
