Leaked Microsoft document supposedly confirms Xbox One will receive 50% CPU and 20% GPU boost from DirectX 12

Supposedly, a file from Microsoft’s documentation about DirectX 12 on Xbox One has leaked online. While a lot of technical details are present, the most interesting snippet has to be an estimation of the performance increase offered by the new technology. According to the file, Microsoft believes that DirectX 12 boosts the Xbox One’s CPU performance by 50% and GPU performance by 20% for games created with DirectX 12.

The documentation was supposedly provided to current developers working on Xbox One games. Microsoft has given us countless examples of how Windows 10 gaming machines would benefit from DirectX 12 but details on how it would impact the Xbox One have been sparse. There has just been a lot of speculation from developers. However, now we allegedly have some facts. According to the document, Microsoft confirms that DirectX 12’s new Direct3D graphics API guarantees an increase in performance for the GPU of about 20%. The overall technology also brings an even bigger improvement to the CPU performance figures, as developers can expect a 50% increase.

A lot of this information validates what developers like Brad Wardell and the Caffeine team have said regarding DirectX 12 and Xbox One. Apparently the leaked document also states that better tools for eSRAM are on their way so that developers can achieve 1080p as a standard resolution “more frequently.” We have reached out to Microsoft for comment and shall update you when we hear back. I would like to remind you that with all such leaks, they should be taken with a grain of salt until we have official confirmation.
