Ghost Games are releasing a pretty substantial update to their reboot of the Need for Speed series on April 27th. The update, which adds content for both single-player and multiplayer, will see the addition of brand new SpeedLists, Prestige mode, and new activities.
Prestige mode is a new form of post-game content that will allow players who have already finished Need for Speed’s campaign to take part in “Prestige events”. These events are technically just replays of previous story missions but at a much higher difficulty. Players will have the ability to switch between prestige mode and regular mode at any time through a new app on the in-game phone.
Ghost Games are also adding new activities around the fictional city of Ventura Bay. These new activities are called Drift Corners and Speed Runs. Approaching a Drift Corner will cause the game to automatically track your drifts so burn some rubber and rack as many points as possible. Speed Runs, however, are very much like the speed cameras in Forza Horizon. Here you’ll need to go as fast as you can, no holding back, so you can get to the top of the leaderboard.
Daily challenges have been tweaked slightly. While currently in Need for Speed you need to complete all three challenges in order to unlock a new decal for your car, now, each challenge will reward you with one of 150 new decals so you can personalise your ride even further than the game already allows you.
SpeedLists is by far the biggest new feature in this update. SpeedLists are a new form of competitive multiplayer for the game, consisting of “five pre-selected events”. Accessed through a new menu option entitled SpeedLists, players will choose from “Quick Play, Speed, Style or Mixed” in order to gain points. Players who compete in SpeedLists will be awarded one of seventeen new titles based on their rank on the world leaderboard. These ranks range from Street Urchin all the way up to World Champion, of which there can only be one.
