In a recent interview with Game Informer, Phil Spencer spoke on the Christmas Day DDoS attacks that severely affected Sony and Microsoft’s online gaming networks. When asked what Microsoft was doing to address the concern of future attacks, Spencer said, “Our commitment to Xbox One customers is to make sure our service is robust and reliable.” Even though there was no security threats involved in the holiday DDoS attacks, Spencer says it’s just as important to Microsoft as having a stable service.
Phil Spencer also said that he has had conversations with Nintendo and Sony regarding the matter. He said that working together can benefit everyone. “I don’t think it’s great when PSN goes down. It doesn’t help me. All it does is put the fear and distrust from any gamer that’s out there, so I look at all of us together as this is our collective opportunity to share what we can about what we’re learning and how things are growing. Those conversations happen, which I think is great.” Spencer added that the DDoS attacks that took place around the holidays were a learning experience and he appreciates the patience of Xbox fans during that time.
