Sony can learn from Xbox One S says former executive

Jack Tretton, the former Sony Computer Entertainment President, which is currently headed by the sour Andrew House, has come out and publicly praised Microsoft on how well they recovered with the Xbox One S. According to Tretton, Microsoft has shown gamers and the industry that they have the will to succeed and the money to back them up.

Ultimately, it’s good for gamers, it’s good for the industry and quite frankly it’s probably even good for Sony that Microsoft have recovered well and both platforms are innovating. It’ll be interesting to see what Nintendo’s new foray into the market does, but you know, ultimately if you don’t deliver a lot of choices and a lot of innovations gamers will find something else to do with their time.

When Microsoft announced the Xbox One in 2013, fans were dismayed at their messaging, and ultimately the Sony PlayStation 4 won out in the war for your cash. However, thanks to Microsoft sticking to their guns and innovating past what was expected, they managed to not only surprise fans but Sony executives as well. Tretton has acknowledged this and stated that it’s ultimately good for both Microsoft and Sony if both companies are doing well.

Sony unveiled in pure Microsoft E3 2013 fashion the Sony PlayStation 4 Pro. The device has already been written off by many as a damp squib, with the Xbox One Scorpio on the way sporting well over 6tflops of computing power.

I think, you know, unless you’re massively ignorant you have to respect Microsoft’s power. I mean, more money than God, very much like Sony a heritage of success in other industries. If Microsoft puts their mind to anything and they put enough money behind it, they’re going to learn.

However, this messaging might go over the heads of many fans and reporters. It’s been well documented how many times gamers and the media have called for Microsoft to shut down their gaming division. Unfortunately for them, Microsoft isn’t one for giving up easily, with Surface being their latest success story.
