Update 3: I’m not sure why Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 wasn’t getting the season pass content and discount on Xbox One but it’s bizarre. Clearly there isn’t a marketing deal here or else it wouldn’t have happened. I think that this is a publicity stunt to get exposure for their game given the fact that Sniper Elite 4 comes out in a few days. The developers still haven’t issued a proper explanation as to why they did this in the first place but given the circumstances, I believe I’m correct. I welcome the chance for CI Games to prove me wrong and provide Xbox One owners with a concrete reason.
Update 2: Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 Season Pass Edition is now available on Xbox One and will get the same content as other platforms.
Update 1: In an update provided to us today, the game’s media firm said that they should have a statement this week about the Xbox One situation. Hopefully the matter will be resolved by then as Phil Spencer himself said he would look into it.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 has struck another cord with Xbox One fans today when the developers announced that users who preordered the game on either Windows or PlayStation 4 will receive the season pass at no extra cost. Those who do not preorder will have to pay $30. But developer CI Games did not announce a similar deal for the free season pass on Xbox One. This has undoubtedly left the Xbox community once again outraged.
This isn’t the first time CI Games has left the community out of the loop. If you remember back in December, we wrote about how the game would support HDR on Xbox One after outrage from fans when it was announced that only the PlayStation 4 and Windows versions would get HDR. Instead of addressing concerns, one of the developers took to Twitter and starting arguing with fans and using childish phrases like “Xbone” again and again. It was truly bizarre behavior.
I’m not one for conspiracy theories but it seems like the developers have a grudge against the Xbox One and its community if this isn’t a marketing deal. If the developers want positive feedback on their game, they really need to learn to start treating their fans better, regardless of the platform they choose to game on. I imagine many Xbox One owners haven’t forgotten the “Xbone” incident.
To add insult to injury, the season pass on Windows and PlayStation 4 includes additional content like a short single-player campaign, multiplayer maps and weapons which will not be available on Xbox One. I honestly have no idea why CI Games is doing this. Like I said, it’s just strange unless they singed a marketing deal with Sony to keep content off of Xbox One. However, I haven’t heard of any marketing deals surrounding this game. For those wondering, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 will release on April 4 for Xbox One and other platforms.
