Ubisoft claims The Division became this year’s best-selling game

Ubisoft has recently announced in a statement regarding its sales that The Division was the best-selling game in 2016. The company is currently hard at work preparing The Division update 1.4 which they have revealed new details about.

According to Ubisoft, which cited NPD and Gfk data, August was the sixth month in a row that it held the “year-to-date sales lead” in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Its market share this year in the United States is 16%, followed by 14.9% in Europe and Australia, and 13% in Canada. Ubisoft attributes some of this success to The Division, which they say is the best-selling game this year.

In addition to strong sales numbers from The Division, Far Cry Primal is in the top 10 so far this year in terms of sales, and Rainbow Six Siege, currently boasting a 40% increase in active players since its Skull Rain update, was in the top 10 for August game sales in the United States.

While The Division sold best for Ubisoft, they are still working on update 1.4 coming in October. In a Special Report stream on Twitch, the developers showed off some changes that were made in a public test server. One of the changes is a new World Tier system. Once a player reaches level 30, the entire New York City map will become level 30 as well. World Tier one includes enemies that can drop up to level 163 items. World Tier two will become available when players reach item level 158 (players can still find items up to level 182 in this tier). World Tier three opens up after players hit 177, and World Tier four is available once they reach item level 199, with the highest items in this tier that a player can attain being level 229.

Update 1.4 will also include new features like Combat Assignment Caches and Field Proficiency Caches. Players can complete daily assignments to earn a Combat Assignment Cache for more chances at loot upgrades. Players will be able to earn experience and fill up a Field Proficiency bar after hitting max level, which will then grant them a Field Proficiency Cache that contains random items once the bar is filled up.
