Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 10 will be available for consumers July 29th. This news comes from the official Windows Blog, where Terry Myerson posted more news on the Windows 10 launch. This will be a free upgrade for all Windows 7 and Windows 8 users, for the first year when downloaded online. Boxed copies will also be available from retailers.
This release date is for the Windows 10 for desktop build, which is close to RTM, however mobile devices will release later this fall. With the date, we were given more information regarding the success of the Windows Insider program, and now know that over 4 million individual users have registered. We have also been given a trailer, showcasing all of the Windows 10 features in brief.
Windows 7 and 8 users are beginning to be notified, with taskbar icons and notifications appearing on many devices eligible for the upgrade. You can now register for a copy of Windows 10 here, which will guarantee you a copy for release.
