Xbox One getting TV DVR functionality next year

We have previously heard rumours about a TV DVR option coming to Xbox One in the near future, and a potential reveal at E3. Although this did not happen, today, at the Xbox Gamescom 2015 press briefing, it was announced that TV DVR is coming to the Xbox console.

The feature will not be available until next year, however utilises many technologies introduced with Windows 10. The TV DVR will be accessible via the OneDrive application, on the Xbox One console. From here, you can access previously recorded shows, or schedule upcoming programs to be recorded. These recordings can also be streamed over a local network, to any device using the Windows 10 Xbox app, or Xbox One SmartGlass application.

For those on the go, if you are unable to access your OneGuide on your Xbox One console, you can schedule programs to record on the console via the Xbox app, if Instant On mode is enabled. It is also possible to download recorded DVR clips, for offline viewing at a later date.

The TV DVR will only be compatible with free-to-air TV channels, therefore those using paid services will either have to use tools possibly provided with a subscription, or via an external DVR. The service will be available for free to all Xbox Live users.
