Crackdown 3 features cloud-powered 100% destructible environments, uses up to 20 times the power of an Xbox One

The first peek at Crackdown 3 debuted today at the Xbox Gamescom 2015 press conference, with early gameplay being delivered on stage. The game will take place in a futuristic city, similar to previous entries to the franchise, and offer a collection of weapons, vehicles and abilities, on offer to the player.

Dave Jones from Reagant Games showed off some early pre-alpha footage of the project, which focused on the freedom and destruction. The title will use cloud computing to its advantage, offloading computational data to maintain a stable framerate when hardware requirements are above the capabilities of the Xbox One console. According to the trailer shown at the briefing, using the Microsoft Cloud in this way offers twenty times the power of the Xbox One when used standalone. It is promised that environments will be 100% destructible, and with this technology, a stable framerate can be achieved.

This technology was first demonstrated at Build 2014, and will offer massive processing gains for the console. This is part of Microsoft’s Kahawai technology, that we covered back in May.

This cloud-based technology will be implemented only in the multiplayer mode, which allows a team of up to four players to complete activities and story missions. A multiplayer beta will be arriving before the game releases next year, during the summer.
