Update: You can reportedly play background music while applying an update. The same works for programs like Pandora which also received universal Windows updates.
Background music playback has been one of the most requested features on Feedback sites for the Xbox One. Microsoft has since then confirmed that the feature will be coming to the Xbox One when the Anniversary update rolls out on August 2. Microsoft has also started teasing the feature on their Groove website.

We already know what background music will look like, and how you will be able to control it. Microsoft have also started testing Universal Apps for Netflix and Hulu, and it’s not a surprise that their Groove music app will follow the same route.
The Windows 10 Anniversary update will roll out to PC, Xbox One and Windows Phone on August 2.
