Microsoft is taking over your living room, wrist, and now your eyes. I wouldn’t be surprised if they released a device that pumps your heart full of Master Chief’s blood! Today at their hardware event, the company revealed a bunch of new products and showed a brand new Hololens demo. Hololens is an augmented reality headset that is different to countless others ones because you can still see everything going on around you in real life while projecting holograms in front of you.
The demo shows a person wearing the Hololens and holding a remote similar to the Wii remote standing in a living room-like environment. Enemies start coming through a hole in the wall and attacking the player, they are actually aware of the environment and move around the furniture instead of just walking through it and taking away from the immersion.
The Hololens allows for the remote to turn from a basic remote into a gun, sword, shield or any other number of weapons thanks to the technology that the Hololens has. This could truly change games in a fantastic way, and even provide a great workout!
Microsoft revealed you can apply for a Hololens development kit today to make games and apps for the device and it’ll cost you $3,000! Obviously it’s not meant for consumers yet, so don’t freak out about that price, you’ll get your chance eventually and it’ll be cheaper.
Microsoft showed a demo for Minecraft on Hololens and it was incredibly impressive, I can’t wait to see what else Microsoft and other developers come up with!
