Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, has left Konami according to a report in The New Yorker. The New Yorker said that October 9 was Kojima’s last day at the company. They cited an anonymous source who said that they attended Kojima’s farewell party that day at Kojima Productions in Tokyo.
The relationship between Konami and Kojima soured when the publisher announced major restructuring. There were reports that Konami was treating their employees poorly. Kojima even hinted that he planned to leave the studio in a series of tweets. Konami even canceled Kojima’s Silent Hills collaboration with Guillermo del Toro.

What’s odd is that Konami issued a statement to a local newspaper after this report came out saying that Kojima and his team were on an extended vacation. I have no idea what’s going on. This all sounds very strange. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kojima has left. I guess we’ll know soon enough.
