Whoops! An over-eager blogger mistakenly published a blank article with the headline “Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL: keeping you prepared for anything”. The news represents a continuation of Microsoft’s plans to launch low-mid range phones to increase market share. The “XL” variant seems be the start of efforts to clean up Nokia’s oft-criticised numbering scheme. The Lumia 640 XL could in-fact be the next version of the Lumia 1320 – an ‘affordable’ phablet.
Previously leaked specs land this handset firmly in the mid-low range, with 1gb of ram, standard 8mp camera, 720 display etc, both variants running on a quad core Snapdragon 400 chips.
Hardcore Lumia-lovers will be disappointed, but not shocked, that Microsoft’s MWC 2015 announcements won’t include a Lumia 940 or successor to the 42 mega pixel Lumia 1020. The company has previously promised that new high-end devices are coming.
I am currently in the airport awaiting a flight to Barcelona, ready to cover Microsoft’s MWC 2015 conference tomorrow, so stick around here for the juicy details.
