3 years since it was first funded on Kickstarter, Star Citizen is finally getting FPS features in the new 2.0 update, which will be released in the upcoming weeks.
Chris Roberts originally delayed the first person shooting aspect around the end of June, 2015, claiming that it was neither technically nor mechanically complete. Now however, it seems that sufficient changes have been made. Roberts says that “Core FPS functionality will be there” but that extra enhancements such as vaulting, sliding, climbing ledges, and more are yet to be included.
Star Citizen’s 2.0 update also brings a new supercruise mode used for traveling to far away locations quickly, and will implement new flight controls. It is safe to expect a complex system that requires precise timing and velocity, similar to that seen in fellow space exploration game, Elite: Dangerous.
The update will also feature new spaceships, arenas, locations, and encounters, as well as player healing, a party system, and a journal used to organize current missions and tasks.
All of this and more will be included in Star Citizen’s imminent update, which will be released to all players. More content is expected to release throughout 2016. Stay tuned to ICXM for the latest in Star Citizen and other gaming news.
