REVIEW: Roundabout

Roundabout is a bizarre and wonderful game that offers challenging gameplay and a quirky story which adds up to one hilarious experience. You play as Georgio Manos as she embarks on a quest to become the top limousine driver in the world. However, the industry is crowded and Georgio needs something to give her an edge over the competition. Instead of starting a normal limousine service, Georgio decides to become the world’s leading revolving chauffeur. The player takes control of a constantly rotating vehicle and has to navigate around various obstacles to drop off passengers. Roundabout is a unique game that everyone should play.

The best parts of the title come in the form of encounters with peculiar passengers. These are presented through videos instead of traditional animation techniques. The clips feature amateur actors that say comical dialogues in a way that make you chuckle. The passengers also offer odd missions like a priest who wants to skip town because he does not want to perform a wedding ceremony. He also throws the groom out of the car along the way. This is just one example of the multitude of unusual missions the game is filled with.

Roundabout is not just a continuous string of missions though. The game has challenges like bouncing a ball on the roof of the car or destroying as many objects as you can. There are also a lot of collectibles that will keep players engaged for hours. There are also many properties to buy. The game definitely has replay value.

Roundabout features precise controls and maneuvering the revolving limousine feels great. While the game does not allow you to adjust the car’s rotational speed, it never becomes cumbersome. Timing is the key to everything, especially when going around circular objects or cars parked in the narrow streets. Avoiding large obstacles is a priority because hitting them causes the vehicle to ricochet off various surfaces until it explodes. Even though the save points are forgiving, the only way to get a perfect score is to avoid hitting anything.

Roundabout is presented as an open world so you can pick whichever mission you want and drive wherever you want. The game lacks a fast travel system but you gain many abilities that make the commute easier. Eventually Georgio’s limousine is able to jump so you can make detours and access new areas. There are also many power-ups like the one that slows down time.

The game features colorful graphics that add to its charm. Surprisingly, there is also a lot of gore. Georgio kills a lot of pedestrians with her revolving limousine so make sure you are prepared to see lots of exploding bodies. We are talking about thousands here.

The only downside to Roundabout is that it is a very short experience. The game can be completed in a few hours if you power through it. However, the challenges and collectibles will keep the player busy for many more if they decide to return to its weird world.

Roundabout is a great game because of its strange humor and revolving gameplay. It offers a lot for its price and has a lot of replay value because you want to get a perfect score for each mission. Going down this route might be difficult and frustrating but the satisfaction of getting it is that much sweeter. Just watching the mission videos is something that makes Roundabout a great buy. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up right now.
