While there are many improvements in the latest build of Dangerous Golf, a few changes which enhance the gameplay must be highlighted. They are as follows:
• Fast restarts: The times have been transformed from 30 seconds to 3 seconds. It changes the game in single-player, in co-op and in party golf.
• New control system: The developers have introduced a significantly easier single-stick, single-buttons control system and added in-game prompts for all actions.
• More control over tee off: They’ve introduced free aim on the tee and in putt. Aim where you want on every hole with complete control over your movement.
• Better introduction to game features: The developers brought back an old friend, Ted Stryker, who recorded all the Burnout 3 voice acting, to narrate their new tutorial video.
• 30 FPS frame rate: They’ve optimized every hole and the game runs at a smooth 30 FPS now from what it seems. The improvement in performance is definitely noticeable even though there are still frame pacing issues present.
If you have previously played Dangerous Golf the controls will default to the original dual-stick, dual-button controls. To experience the new controls go to Settings and select Simple SmashBreaker and One Button Drop to Putt controls. Similarly the tutorial video will not play if you have an existing save game. To see the video go to Settings and select it there.
While you can eventually unlock the pistol perk which shows you your trajectory after the first tour, I feel that guidelines should’ve been standard from the beginning of the experience. Why is that there is so much randomness and lack of control projected during the start of the experience? I just don’t understand these developer choices. I’m glad they made the game easier though with the better controls and scoring system.
Additionally, the game still looks like a blurry mess on Xbox One and I still can’t recommend that you get it on the console. I realize it’s physics-based but after having discussions with my friends like Leigh who are part of the industry, it’s established that the game is poorly optimized on Xbox One. Taking all of these changes into account, if I were to rate this game today, I would probably give it six out of ten stars as oppose to the five stars in my original review. Maybe it’s a great experience on other platforms but it’s really not on Xbox One. I really hope the developers are able to keep on updating it on this console.
