Frostbite finally delivering decent resolutions on Xbox One with Battlefield 1

Update: Digital Foundry confirmed that the game was running at higher resolution than 720p and was utilizing dynamic scaling.

It seems that the Xbox One version of Battlefield 1 has received a substantial upgrade since the beta. This is definitely welcome news because DICE games used to run at 720p on the console. For those playing the campaign on EA Access, you’ll notice the sharpness of the picture immediately in many places.

According to a tip we got from Dave P. on email, VG Tech did an analysis on the visuals. VG Tech said, “Pixel counts indicate that the prerelease version of the Battlefield 1 campaign on Xbox One uses a dynamic resolution seemingly ranging from approximately 1320×744 to 1780×1000. Note that the lowest and highest values are just the lowest and highest values found and that the game may potentially vary more than this.”

Please keep in mind that this analysis is from VG Tech and Digital Foundry has yet to share their opinion. It will be interesting to see if it stacks up with Digital Foundry’s inevitable analysis of both versions. Just going by what you can see, the visuals seem improved from Star Wars: Battlefront, Battlefield Hardline and Battlefield 4. We’ll have to wait and see what the other experts say. If this is true, the jump to 1000p is definitely a welcome change and would explain the clearer visuals. Thanks again Dave P. for sending us the tip!
