The Division will feature microtransactions

Microtransactions, like them or not, are here to stay, whether it be requisition packs in Halo, weapon skins in Call of Duty, or gold coins in nearly all mobile games. The juggernaut of paying for things that were once free through in-game unlocks shows no signs of stopping anytime soon and Ubisoft’s highly anticipated MMO-style shooter, The Division, appears to be jumping on the game industry’s bandwagon.

According to a post on IGN Netherlands, they have found items referring to microtransactions on the games pre-order page on the PlayStation Store, along with the season pass and other content. Although there is no indication of what will be included in these penny-pinching purchases, they will probably match up with Ubisoft’s history of clothing, attachments, in-game currency and more.

In my opinion, I don’t have too much of a problem with microtransactions when it comes to weapon skins, alternate apparels and other non-gameplay effecting items, but when it comes to buying access to game areas, actual weapons and additional content that gives the buyer an advantage over people who have spent their well-earned cash on a brand new game, that is where the problem lies.

Let us know in the comments what you think of microtransactions and how you think they have affected the games of today.
