The backwards compatibility announcement came at this year’s E3 conference to everyone’s surprise. Xbox 360 titles already purchased through the Xbox 360 marketplace, as well as retail discs, will eventually be playable on Xbox One. Backwards compatibility was accomplished by making an emulator for the Xbox 360 that ran on Xbox One.
