During the GDC keynote, Phil Spencer stated that DirectX 12 gave a 20% boost to the Xbox One GPU and other existing cards right off the bat. To coincide with this announcement, Phil showed off many incredible projects made with DirectX 12. The Xbox One has unique architecture given its custom hardware and use of ultra-fast eSRAM. The fact that switching over to DirectX 12 gives the system a 20% graphics boost is a testament to the ingenuity of the DirectX 12 and Xbox One teams. In the past, Phil Spencer confirmed that the new graphics API could boost performance for CPU-bound games by 50%. That, along with this overall 20% GPU boost, should result in richer games making their way onto the console.
Phil will also discuss many topics including the app SDK and HoloLens game development. Today is definitely a treat for all Microsoft and Xbox fans. Stay tuned to ICXM.net for more breaking news from GDC 2015.
