We all know Titanfall 2 is a lot of fun but it hasn’t been selling well due to the odd release date. Well, Vince Zampella from Respawn had a few choice words to share. When asked what he thought about the release date, he said:
“It definitely feels a little odd. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is from my old studio, that I built. And they’re repackaging my old game that I built, on a brand that I built. So it’s kind of like you’re throwing it all against me. Okay, I can live with it. If the question was: would I rather have this window to myself? Well, of course. I’m not foolish. I’m not foolish that way, anyway. In other ways, probably.”
What’s more shocking is what Zampella said about the future of the franchise. It’s obvious he’s really angry with EA for the release date and how it’s following Battlefield 1. Zampella added in response to what the future of the franchise looked like:
“We don’t know yet. The game is, critically, a huge success. We’re really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it’s too early to tell. We’d definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we’ll explore more of it. EA might have announced more.”
Hoping to get a commitment about sequels, the EA publicist said:
“What we’ve said is we’re committed to the franchise.”
To this Zampella said rather angrily:
“So, whatever the fuck that means.”
Zampella is clearly very angry here and the future of the franchise is uncertain. Hopefully sales will pick up down the line because the first game passed 10 million units I believe. We’ll see how this goes. I’d love a Titanfall 3.
