In a video recapping For Honor’s recent closed alpha, Producer Stephane Cardin said that split-screen would be dropped from Ubisoft’s upcoming title.
Cardin said, “We decided this week to cut the split-screen. It was a feature that we loved, but, when we looked at what needs to be done to support online co-op, for us it was critical to make a decision now so we can polish all the features at the AAA level and make sure that we have the most amazing experience.”
While it was a difficult decision to make, Cardin’s comments imply that online co-op is more important to them as it is key to the experience and is part of the soul of the game. The developers want to ensure that it is at a high enough quality when players pick up For Honor.
For Honor is set to release on February 14, 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It features a single player campaign and multiplayer. Players can choose from one of three factions (The Legion, The Chosen, and The Warborn), which represent knights, samurai, and vikings, to fight against one another in a medieval setting.
