Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2 have sold well over 7 million copies to consumers since their launch. This figure doesn’t include gamers who bought both titles. This is a tremendous achievement and is a testament to the quality of the titles. If you analyze this from a monetary perspective, it means that Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2 have made at least $500 million on Xbox One alone. This is a conservative estimate.
In a statement Microsoft said, “Xbox One is the home for racing this generation. Between Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2, over seven million unique players have joined the Forza community, racing on Xbox One.” This isn’t the amount of units shipped as is customary for large companies to share. These are the actual sell-through numbers as they represent individual gamers. There are more than 7 million players enjoying the Forza series on Xbox One alone. Don’t forget, Forza Horizon 2 also shipped on the Xbox 360 but these are just figures for the next-generation console.
Something to point out would be that Microsoft just released figures for “unique players” on Xbox One. There is bound to be significant overlap as many people bought Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2. The people who bought both titles would still be counted as one player according to this statistic as it measures only unique gamers. The actual units sold will be much higher than 7 million because, according to some polls, more than half of Forza Motorsport 5 owners bought Forza Horizon 2. Even if we take into account individuals who game share, the 7 million estimate is still the minimum as it’s compensated by gamers who bought both titles.
The Forza Motorsport and Horizon series represent the pinnacle of simulation and open world racing. It’s no surprise that they’re this popular! More than a million people have played the Forza Motorsport 6 demo until now! We recently reviewed Forza Motorsport 6 and gave it a perfect score too.
