Windows 10’s recent leaked build, build 14997, was revealed to have an upcoming feature called “Game Mode” hidden within itself. According to an article on Windows Central, who claim to have multiple sources confirming the same details, “Game Mode” is not only a feature for Windows 10 PCs but is also used in Xbox One and Project Scorpio too.
The “Game Mode” technology is allegedly already in use for the current Xbox One when running games or programs developed under Microsoft’s UWP service. “Game Mode streamlines variations between Xbox consoles and PCs, making sure as many Windows 10 systems as possible can run games to the standards set by the Xbox One and Project Scorpio”, claims the article.
This style of automatic scaling between systems may be similar to a form of “auto-detect” function between systems, like how PC games automatically sense what settings your hardware can handle when you boot the game for the first time. Allegedly, Microsoft have set target standards for both Xbox One and Scorpio with a “900p to 1080p resolution for Xbox One and 4K resolution with 60 frames per second for Project Scorpio.”
