Here’s why today’s leaked Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 trailer seems fake

The annual Call of Duty announcement typically takes place before E3. With this event approaching so closely, fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting Activision to make their announcement. Yesterday, a video was released onto a YouTube channel called simply Emanuel Bruke. This apparent teaser trailer was the channels only video.

Shortly after it was released, the video was swiftly hit with a copyright strike by Call of Duty publisher Activision. The trailer, which claimed to be the official trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts II, has since been picked apart by the Call of Duty subreddit who discovered quite quickly that the trailer was a fake.

While the extremely quick copyright strike by Activision is still quite weird for a video on an unknown channel, the trailer features several details that made fans call this out as fake. For one, the trailer actually uses dialogue from the 2014 WW2 FPS Enemy Front from the mission where the protagonist takes part in an assault in the Norwegian Oscarsborg Fortress.

The trailer also featured snow and wind effects from the hugely popular Modern Warfare 2 as well as most of the video consisting of a character talking over a looped video of snow on a black background. However, there is still the fact that Activision took this video down extremely quickly. This may be Activision actually checking for leaks of their next Call of Duty which should be announced soon. Infinity Ward—developers of Call of Duty: Ghosts—are the developers of the next COD game so a Ghosts II isn’t unlikely. Tell us what you think in the comments below.
