In the recent Halo Community Update posted to the official Halo site, community manager at 343 Industries, Andy Dudynsky, detailed more options for purchasing Halo 5: Guardians. Last month the contents of Halo 5’s $250 Limited Collector’s Edition were announced, showcasing the new TriForce statue, and range of physical goodies included in the package.
Among the bundle of collectible items was a digital code for Halo 5: Guardians, which once redeemed allows the user to pre-install the game. This was greeted with conflicting stances, from collectors and fans, and according to Dudynsky, 343 Industries will now attempt to please both sides. The Limited Collector’s Edition will release one week earlier than all other editions, to not only treat fans who paid for the top tier edition, but also allow them to pre-load the game one week prior. This was seen by many as a good compromise, however some still wished for a physical disc.
Few details have been shared, but we have been reassured that those who wish to receive the disc can request an exchange closer to launch.
Andy Dudynsky gave the following information in the newest weekly update:
“But before we get started, I’d like to touch on a few items, the first of which is the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Collector’s Edition. When we last left off, we let you know that we had heard the feedback that some of you prefer a physical disc instead of a digital copy, and that we were exploring options. Today, we’re able to confirm that for those who would like a physical disc, we’ll provide an option for fans to exchange their digital copy for a physical copy at no additional cost. We’ll get into details as we get closer to launch, and we’d like to once again thank you for the feedback.”
It currently seems that the details have not been finalised how this exchange will occur, but for those who want the disc, expect the game to release at a later date. Those who receive a code will be able to pre-install the title early, but will not be activated until midnight. It is likely those who request the physical disc will have a regular retail copy with no restrictions, and will have to wait until the game launches on October 27 to get their hands on it.
