Here are our E3 2017 predictions

The biggest gaming event of the year is less than a week away! E3 2017 is going to (hopefully) answer some of our biggest questions, as well as give us loads of exciting new surprises. While we do already know a lot of what we can expect from a lot of these press conferences, especially Ubisoft’s, here are a few of our predictions for what we hope to see at E3 2017.

Microsoft

The reason we do ICXM, Microsoft will no doubt be our main focus during this year’s E3 and after their spectacular conference last year with Xbox One S, Play Anywhere and the big reveal of Scorpio, Microsoft’s conference will definitely hit hard this time around too.

Antonio

Scorpio will be priced at around $400

Microsoft will revive a classic game franchise for the modern generation

There will be a substantial list of games running on Native 4K on Scorpio

A brand new Mature/Adventure IP from Microsoft

Jen

• Scorpio release date for late October, price between $450 and $500

• Showcase of games running at 4K on Scorpio

• Crackdown 3 demo with release date

• State of Decay demo with release date

• Show something from Sea of Thieves but no release date, maybe open beta?

• Forza 7 trailer with release date

• 343i will show something related to Halo

• Indie games montage, possible Cuphead release date

Lewis

A large portion of the conference will focus on Scorpio, probably with a “4K on Scorpio” or “Better on Scorpio” watermark in the corner of compatible games.

Scorpio’s price will be revealed at somewhere between $550 and $400, it will make me and my wallet cry but it’s going to be worth it.

Scorpio will finally get the reveal of its official name, we’ll all hate it for a little bit before eventually getting used to it and silently moaning that the name Scorpio was cooler.

Crackdown 3 will get a proper gameplay demo for once. All of its single player destruction which wasn’t possible on the original Xbox One will be in the Scorpio build with the rest limited to just cloud-based multiplayer on Xbone.

Microsoft will announce at least two new games to launch alongside Scorpio—Forza 7 which of course is real, and something brand-new.

Kurt

The hype for Forza 7 is real. It’s going to be good but more than anything I’m crossing my fingers for the series to delve into the world of rally. We’ve seen glimpses of potential in the Horizon games but its Motorsport that could create a real rally simulation contender. Outside of that I reckon Rare’s Sea of Thieves should get some quality screen time. Crackdown 3 should show up, Halo in some form at least could happen and there will be tonnes of third party goodness as always.

It doesn’t take a genius to realise that Scorpio will play a big part in this year’s E3. For me the focus is on the price they attach to it which I suspect will be announced here. Historically, they messed up the Xbox One’s launch price and it hurt them short term until they got around to fixing it later. They can not let the same happen to project Scorpio. A competitive price is a must for its success.

My wildcard, as in the thing that almost certainly won’t happen but I’d love, is a proper new Zoo Tycoon game for both Xbox and Windows. I used to love that series but found myself cripplingly disappointed by the Kinect launch title so a return to form would make me a very happy gamer.

Dean

Scorpio to be revealed, criticized by the media for being all about power, then overshadowed by the PS5 reveal at Sony’s conference, which will be praised for being all about power. Crackdown will finally return with a release date of 2027. Player to vomit on stage while demonstrating Halo 6 with VR support. Phil Spencer ends show by saying the audience gets free scorpions, thousands of which fall from the ceiling, while Phil makes a getaway in the stupid car they will obviously bring out for Forza.

EA

The first conference in this year’s schedule which will inevitably have us all bored halfway through when they start talking about sports. Nethertheless, EA are home to some fantastic properties and this console should be just as exciting as last year’s. Just please. . . lay off the sport. . . just a bit.

Antonio

BioWare’s new IP will be shortly teased

Jen

• Star Wars Battlefront 2 demo

• New BioWare IP

• Sports games galore

• Peggle 3 please

Lewis

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars RPG will be the big two with a large amount of gameplay for the former, a small tease for the latter.

BioWare’s new IP will be shown off for the first time and they’ll never talk about Mass Effect again.

Fifa, Madden, all that stuff. After all, it is an EA conference.

EA’s indie games will return with Unravel 2 alongside some new games.

Kurt

I wouldn’t expect anything particularly surprising here. I suspect the order will be Star Wars, more Star Wars, Sporty sports, NFS, Battlefield DLC and possibly a new IP thrown on the end to hype fans up. No doubt there will be an entire section where they get (INSERT FRONT COVER SPORTS STAR HERE) on stage and tell us why this FIFA’s dynamic breathing from the players, or something like that, is truly innovative.

My dream appearance would be a new Burnout game but I’m not going to be betting on that anytime soon. Wouldn’t mind a Sims game either, especially a new Sim CIty. I’d genuinely take a new Fifa Street too. It’s been a few years since the last and they’ve always been pretty fun titles.

Dean

The entire conference is literally just two hours of someone playing Madden, followed by an ironic ten-minute demonstration of the incredible facial animations in Bioware’s MMO thing.

Bethesda

The makers of some of our favourite games (*cough* Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind *cough*), Bethesda’s conference has been pretty great both times around. With id Software, Arkane, Bethesda Game Studios and more that could potentially be behind their belt, Bethesda could potentially have an absolutely killer conference.

Antonio

Bethesda will reveal the highly-rumoured sequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order

The Evil Within 2!!

Starfield will be revealed at last with a trailer eerily similar to Destiny

Jen

• Wolfenstein: The New Colossus trailer with release date

• The Evil Within 2 trailer with release date

• Dishonored 2 DLC announcement

• Bethesda Game Studios possibly announces a new IP

• Fallout VR

• Something about Quake Champions

Lewis

Bethesda will spend far too much time talking about Quake Champions even though everyone who cares has already played it.

Bethesda Game Works will tease one of their two big AAA games as well as show what their mobile division is working on.

Arkane will take to the stage to announce DLC for either Dishonoured 2 or Prey, if we’re lucky we’ll get spoiled by both.

Wolfenstein: The New Colossus will be Bethesda’s big reveal only for the conference to drop off and start talking about Elder Scrolls Online and Elder Scrolls Legends. Not everything can be perfect.

Bethesda will not answer my prayers and announce a Morrowind remake (AGAIN!) I will be a little bit angry, a little bit sad but, most of all, a little bit disappointed.

Kurt

All I can do is cry for Morrowind remastered but deep down I know all too well it’s not going to happen. What we’re actually going to get is some light coverage of ESO: Morrowind to hype up its recent launch. As for a new Elder Scrolls? Possible. The gap between IV and V was over five years so at this point we’re overdue number six.

Quake Champions will appear and likely be focused on quite a bit. It’ll likely be advertised as a huge reboot to kick life back into the series for the first time since Quake 4. Can’t say I’m buying into it but each to their own. Might be DLC announced for either DOOM or Dishonored 2. Other than that, the only other thing I can think of would be a new IP. Something tells me this conference isn’t going to be my personal favourite.

Dean

That Starfield rumor to be a hoax. Quake returns as a terrible free-to-play hero-based shooter that nobody will play. Elder Scrolls will be an expansion pack for Online, audience riots.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s conference has mostly been spoiled for us so far. With the company not being able to hold in their excitement, they went and announced the majority of their games with the exception of the heavily leaked Assassin’s Creed Origins and Mario/Rabbids crossover. We know they’re coming, just let us know already!

Antonio

Assassin’s Creed Origins will be finally revealed; Native 4K on Xbox Scorpio

Jen

• Far Cry 5 demo

• South Park: The Fractured But Whole (Hehe – Editor)

• The Crew 2

• New IP

• Assassin’s Creed: Origins demo and release date

Lewis

Ubisoft will show you everything they’ve prematurely teased and we’ll be mildly impressed and smugly nodding our heads throughout.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will have a gameplay demo that will make me nod my head in approval.

Ubisoft’s “one more thing” tradition will stay and this one will be miles cooler than Steep. . . or at least I’ll remember when this one comes out.

Kurt

We already have a good idea of what’s appearing in Ubisoft’s conference. Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2 are sure to frontline this event. I’m pretty excited for The Crew 2 trailer as, while the game itself disappointed me, the original The Crew had one of the best E3 trailers I’ve ever seen. Let’s not forget good old Just Dance too which will likely be as cringey as ever to watch. You’d have to expect the rumored Mario Rabbids game to show up too at this point.

My dream announcement from Ubisoft would have to be Siege 2 but it seems improbable considering they are rolling out several Year 2 Operators at the moment. Not exactly good marketing to invalidating their usefulness by announcing a new game. I’d love for them to announce Tetris: Remastered with DLC and microtransactions as a joke too. They won’t but it’d be funny.

Dean

Audience to chant “Lock her up” throughout the entire Far Cry 5 demo. Yves Guillemot to announce Beyond Good and Evil 2, before literally saying “LOL jk, we made another Rabbids game instead. Au revoir suckers.”
