Killer Instinct runs at 90 FPS on Xbox One

The reboot of the classic one to one fighting game franchise, Killer Instinct released alongside the Xbox One in 2013. The franchise was taken over by Double Helix Games, in collaboration with Microsoft Studios, and released exclusively on Xbox One. Since, Iron Galaxy Studios have taken the reigns, and produce all post-launch content, while supporting the community around it. Killer Instinct: Season 2 released last October on Xbox One.

Phil Spencer announced last month, at the E3 PC Gaming Show, that the title would be coming to the PC through Windows 10 later in the year.

Killer Instinct will support cross play between Xbox One and PC, allowing gamers from both platforms to compete against one another. If you also own the title on Xbox One, you will receive it for free on when the PC version is available.

At the Evo 2015 panel for Killer Instinct, we have been given further details regarding the future of the title, and what can be expected when new content releases soon.

From the panel it has been announced that more characters are soon being added in Shadows mode. This mode allows intelligent AI to scale alongside the player, and train without friends being online. These shadows build themselves up around the player, and their playstyle.

Shadow Jago and Omen are also continuing to use the same stage, the Shadow Tiger’s Lair.

Many people have noted that Killer Instinct plays smoothly on the console, to a point where it stands out from many other titles. It was announced by Iron Galaxy, that the game runs at 90 FPS, which allows games to be fluid whether played locally, or online. This came as a surprise to many, and has not been previously announced. The game is output to the screen at 60 FPS, however the game itself is running at 90 FPS. Rollback is then used to reduce the framerate to 60 FPS, but as the game is running at such a high framerate, the outputted result is constant and stable.

Killer Instinct: Season 2 may release on disc according to the developer, now it has concluded. This will likely come at the same time, or after the PC release.

The developer has previously stated ‘everything is possible’, in response to a question asking if Killer Instinct: Season 3 would be coming. This isn’t a confirmation, but assures us that more content is in the works.
