Game streaming coming to Xbox One soon

Update: Miss Portia, an Xbox One engineer, clarified that the option was only added to get things in place. Game streaming still requires some time and will not be coming with the Xbox One May update but should make its way to consoles very soon. Windows 10 launches this summer so expect it then or a little after that.

Yesterday, Larry Hryb stated that a preview patch would be rolling out that contained bug fixes and improvements for last month’s update. He added that new features would arrive later this month but didn’t go into any detail as to what they would be. However, it seems that the much-requested feature of being able to stream your games to your Windows 10 device will be rolling out next month. The preferences section now lists a game streaming to other devices option which is currently in the testing phase.

Phil Spencer previously stated that the Xbox team has been working on streaming games for quite some time but also hinted that the feature might take a while to arrive. Now it seems like it will be here next month. At least a beta version of the service should make its way to customers then.

Streaming games will require a Windows 10 computer and we recommend getting the newly announced cheaper Surface 3 tablet for this task. We confirmed with Aaron Greenberg and others that the tiny tablet will be able to stream Xbox One games once it gets the Windows 10 update with the Xbox application. Windows 10 is coming this summer and we can’t wait to try out this feature. I’m excited because my family wants to watch a lot of Netflix and Hulu Plus on the television so this will be a great way for me to catch up on my gaming without hogging it the entire time. I can’t wait for this feature to go live.
