Microsoft reportedly building Chrome OS-like Windows 10 Cloud

After recent Windows 10 test builds were released to Insiders, people have found mentions of Windows 10 Cloud, seemingly a new version of the OS. While it shares a name with the Microsoft Cloud, it may have nothing to do with that service.

Sources speaking with ZDNet have said that this Windows 10 Cloud is a simplified version of the OS meant as a cheaper alternative. It will supposedly only be able to run Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps from the Windows Store. Microsoft is designing this to compete with Chrome OS and Chromebooks, according to ZDNet’s contacts.

WalkingCat on Twitter noted that Windows Cloud was first seen in SDK 15003.

When reached for comment by ZDNet, a Microsoft spokesperson simply said, “We have nothing to share.” Hopefully we’ll get an update about this soon.
