Need for Speed’s sequel won’t be always online

Ghost Games have just confirmed that the sequel to 2015’s Need for Speed will be arriving before the end of this year, with massive improvements from the original.

Before it gets properly revealed at this year’s EA Play in June, Ghost Games have informed the fans of multiple improvements that they are targeting with this year’s entry in the series. The first will be customization, a massive part of any proper Need for Speed game. “It’s not going away and it will play as strong a role as ever as we move forward into the next game and beyond.” While now the 2015 version of Need for Speed has a substantial level of customization through various updates, fans were left wanting when the game initially launched.

The biggest news revealed through this announcement is a complete removal of always-online DRM which plagued the first game and kicked people from playing during the solo campaign. This time around you’ll be able to play whenever you want, as well as pause the game for a quick toilet break.

Finally, cop chases will be massively improved. The weak, boring cops from the first game were massively underpowered and became tedious to deal with. This time, Ghost Games will be aiming to improve cop chases. “We’re dialing up the action and allowing you to tear up the tarmac, and dirt, to your heart’s content.

Burn rubber as you throw a car around a corner sideways and floor it as you hit an epic jump away from the cops. We’re building the world, but what you do in it is the aspect that excites us most.”
