Xbox Scorpio to provide benefits on 1080p screens

The biggest question on the minds of Xbox fans right now is whether Xbox Scorpio will deliver improved graphics for players without 4K TVs and the answer has just been revealed: yes.

Coming from Windows Central, Project Scorpio will indeed support 1080p displays with enhanced graphics when compared to its higher resolution counterparts. Project Scorpio will launch with support for higher quality shaders, namely, Shader Model 6 which will also come to the current Xbox One/Xbox One S as well.

Existing titles in the Xbox One library will use a dynamic scaling technique to make sure that games are reaching their target resolution—whether it be 1080p, 1440p or 4K—while maintaining a solid frame rate. This is similar to techniques used in Halo 5: Guardians where the engine changes the resolution in order to keep a consistent 60 FPS.

Like you can do on PC and with a couple of PS4 Pro titles, Scorpio will take full advantage of supersampling for 1080p displays. This involves downsampling a full-4K textured game to render out at 1080p allowing for the game to show less aliased edges.

Like with PS4 Pro, Xbox Scorpio’s full strength will come to those with an ultra HD screen. The console will have a 4K Blu-ray player, HDMI 2.0a support, Wide Color Gamut and the inclusion of High Dynamic Range.
