Ubisoft have announced today that their upcoming shooter, Rainbow Six Siege has been delayed. The delay comes in response to fan feedback, and community opinions on the current state of the game, and now further tuning and optimisation is scheduled. The game will release December 1, 2015, delayed from the initial release date of October 13, 2015.
In a blog post from Ubisoft, they state that studio playtests, showcases at events, and the closed alpha have provided the studio with more information which the team is using to shape their next shooter. It is obvious there is now a focus on the community with development, rather than sticking with the studio’s original plans.
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but based on the feedback we’ve received, and based on our own internal tests, we felt there are adjustments and improvements we can make, including improving the co-op experience across all game modes, weapon and gadget balancing, as well as menu and interface navigation. We’re taking a little more time to make these changes, and we think it’s the right call.”
The closed beta, set to begin next month, is still on track and will be playable over two months before the game releases, on September 24. This will beta is expected to have more applications, and open positions than the closed alpha, and will be an opportunity to test networking and infrastructure with a large audience. While it is disappointing to see a delay, if the game requires the extra love and care stated by Ubisoft, the final result should be a highly polished title.
